PhD (Biomedical Engineering)
Eli received his PhD in Biomedical Engineering jointly from the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) and the Emory University School of Medicine.
Eli has spent the last nine years researching how genetic variations between people affect health and treatment options. For his PhD thesis, he developed safer ways to use CRISPR gene editing to treat people with rare genetic diseases. He then worked as the senior scientist in a start-up creating a "clinical trial in a dish" to test how cells from genetically diverse people responded differently to new medicines being developed. Eli has authored or co-authored more than a dozen scientific publications, which have been cited more than 3,000 times.
